About us

Welcome to family travel blog FlipFlopGlobetrotters.com! In March 2015 we packed up all our stuff, packed our bags and our 18-month old little boy and started our journey. The idea was to travel in South East Asia for a year. Due to circumstances it became 10 months, but that was enough to get us hooked. Travel with kids is so much fun!

We travel with our little world traveler and so can you!

We started FlipFlopGlobetrotters.com to document our travels, to share our family travel experiences and to inspire other families to travel too. Our motto: “we travel with our little world traveler and so can you!”. While you’re here, why not read about how travel changes when you have kids or which travel accessories for infants we used most when our son was younger, and check out our tried and tested tips for flying with infants and toddlers.

After 10 months of travel, 25 flights and 32.645 miles, this is what we learned

  • our little boy is a born world traveler
  • travel with kids can be a challenge… and very rewarding
  • kids change your perspective
  • so much more is possible than we ever imagined

Wanderlust, travel bug… call it what you like, we simply love to travel! We’re now back in The Netherlands, more determined than ever to create a nomadic lifestyle for ourselves. When not traveling, we dream of travel. It’s in our blood.

FlipFlopGlobetrotters editor-in-chief and driving force. I love to travel, and I love to write. It can not get much better than writing about travel! I also really enjoy photography, a useful skill for a travel blogger. After 15+ years of working as an online marketer in paid employment, I’m now learning how to be a digital nomad, combining freelance marketing and writing work for clients with having our own travel blog. I love the freedom, and the amount of quality time we’re able to spend with our little boy as he’s growing up. My first real solo trip was an internship for university in 2000. I spent 6 months in the US and learned a lot. In 2001 I went backpacking in Australia for 3 months (originally I was going for a month, I think that says enough..). After that I was addicted to travel. Mau and I met in 2002. We’ve been traveling together ever since and now that we have our little boy, we travel as a family.

Maurice

Carpenter by trade, traveler by heart. He got seriously infected by the travel bug, when he set off to Thailand and Laos for 4 months when he was just 19 years old. The first thing he said when we talked about getting pregnant was “but we’ll keep on traveling, right?”. Now he loves to go exploring with our son. Mau’s a very social person and fun to be around. He can be brutally honest, which takes some getting used to, but is actually very refreshing. He was born and raised in beautiful, historic Haarlem. Now and again he likes to write a post for our travel blog, but writing is not really his cup of tea. He loves to talk about travel though 🙂 He’s a big fan of National Geographic and enjoys watching documentaries about animals, nature and history.

Our cheeky little ginger haired boy was born in August 2013. He loves to roam and discover, has infinite curiosity and questions everything he sees. A true world traveler, he loves any type of transportation, from the tuk tuk’s in Thailand to the bike taxi’s in Indonesia. Travel at such a young age has made him incredibly flexible and accepting. He’s inherited his dad’s social personality and isn’t shy at all. When he grows up he wants to be a fireman.
