In reply to Lydia C. Lee. We usually don't have the budget to stay in a resort, but you're absolutely right. It has to be easy and fun for the person staying on shore with the kids. Your holiday in the Maldives sounds amazing. Your husband is so lucky that you don't mind taking care of the kids while he's diving!

We’ve done heaps of dive holidays with little kids – I’m not a diver tho so I’m babysitter for half or the whole day. I get some turns at snorkel trips tho, and with the kids as they get older. I just think you have to make the accom ‘easy’ or fun for the person stuck at the resort. If you’re in an apartment and it’s all a hassle, then no good. If it’s a resort, and you can just stroll over for lunch or hit the pool or beach with ease, then it’s a fun holiday. In the Maldives, my husband would dive in the morning, come back for lunch with us, then dive in the afternoon. We’d just swim or chill in the room – but the room was on the beach so I could read my book outside on the deck chair, and it was relaxing anyway.

In reply to Celine. Yes, exactly Celine! In this case, taking turns was our best option. It's so important for parents to plan a bit of me time while they travel with their kids, especially for long-term travel.

These are great tips! Like so many other things travelling with small kids, we sometimes find it easier to take turns or keep it to a shorter amount of time. Good for you for continuing to do what you love! #fearlessfamtrav

In reply to Leona. Our little one always has priority, but both of us love diving, so we just rearranged our schedule so that we could. As with all family travel it's a bit of give and take ;-)

It takes a bit of adjustment, but it’s definitely doable. Now, our 4-year old loves snorkeling! That’s even more fun, cause now we can share the underwater world with him! He tried in the pool a few times and then when we were in Egypt he snorkeled like a pro. Amazing. He can’t swim yet without his floaties, but it’s fantastic to see him snorkeling. Little diver to be 🙂 We really liked looking up all the fishes he saw while snorkeling in our fish encyclopedia together.

we don’t dive but in the Maldives we struggled finding time to snorkel while traveling with the little. Glad you managed to carve out time

I love how you make diving with kids seem doable! Such simple ideas and I can see how they would most definitely work. We took the kids snorkeling for the first time this week in Thailand. My 2yo just bobbed around, but my 4yo was seriously getting the hang of it, diving under water to see the fish! #fearlessfamtrav
